I'm going to participate in my very first blog party today. The ladies over at Shanty2Chic are holding an I Did it without my Hubby party. Now, I love my hubby and I love having him help me out with home improvement projects, but my hubby doesn't always love home improvement projects!!
Especially painting.
So, last year when I decided my not so baby boy needed a room makeover and painting was involved, I grabbed my sister on a 3-day weekend and we made-over his room.
The "before" pictures show the room as the nursery. It had a Winnie the Pooh theme and I loved it...at the time. (Don't worry about the name on the wall. We took that down when we moved our son in there.)
OK, now for the makeover. With the bright green, we decided to prime the walls first. My vision was to create a "Cars" themed wall. So...in order to make my vision a reality, we needed to tape off one wall into 3 sections at the top and one long section at the bottom.
I chose "Sally" blue and "Lightning McQueen" red for the wall colors (I don't know the official names. I was matching the colors to matchbox cars!). So we painted 3 boring, I mean solid colored walls and the middle stripe "Sally" blue.
Then using "Lightning McQueen" red, we painted the other 2 stripes. And let me tell you, it took 5 coats of red on those walls to cover them. Even with the primer.
After the paint dried, it was time for best part, the wallpaper borders. I put up the checkerboard border under the stripes.
I had tire track borders to put up between the stripes. But on the corners where the red met the blue, it didn't look right. Luckily, I had enough tire border left to cut it in half and put up half on each corner. Perfect!
For the final touch, we bought "Cars" repositionable wall stickers from Lowes and let our little man put them up where ever he wanted to. Here is the final wall.
And that is my contribution to the I Made it without my Hubby party. I know this project is over a year old, but it's the one I'm most proud of. I hope you enjoyed seeing it.

ReplyDeleteOh my! That's so cute! When my second son was born we redid the entire boys room to something similar. I loved it, it was so bright and cheery. (We even picked up some plastic metallic wheels that were part of a store display somewhere and had them hanging on the wall...so cute!)
